Foundations of Health Data Science

Module code: MD7475

This module will provide an outline of the workflow of a typical data science project, from the formation of questions to the communication of results. Typical data science projects involve working in teams, sharing code, collating data from difference sources, managing the data and presenting to conclusions to stakeholders. Therefore you will learn skills in version control, data linkage and data visualisation as well as being introduced to some important and commonly used databases in UK population health.

Foundations of Health Data Science Project

This group project gives you the experience in working as a data analytical team. You will work together to collate data from multiple sources and formulate a question that can be appropriately answered with these data sources. You will then use simple statistical analyses and bespoke data visualisations to present an individual report on your findings.

Health Data Science

You will extend your skills in data linkage and querying by learning SQL and advanced methods for linking databases. Your programming skills will be enhanced and data visualisations skills developed. Case studies will be presented from data scientists working in the university and NHS.
