International Investment Law

This module is a specialist course intended as an advanced course on the international law on foreign investment. It introduces you to the fundamental concepts and principles of international investment law, analysing its development, its sources, the problem of the definition of foreign investment under international law and the fundamental actors in the field, from the private investors to the states involved in the issues of investment protection. Significant time is spent dealing with the features of investment arbitration and the role of arbitral tribunals in the development of international investment law. It is strongly recommended that you have a solid public international law background, or at least a good knowledge of the sources of international law and the law of state responsibility.
