Maitrise Conversion

Module code: LW2440

In this module, you will learn about the main differences between the systems of French and English and Welsh Law. You will also be introduced to the methods of legal study practised in France and will undertake some practically-focused tasks. There is no assessment for this module but attendance and active participation are required, as this is crucial preparation for the transition to your Licence year in Strasbourg.

The module is comprised of the following topics:

  • Spécificités du droit français
  • Organisation de la Justice
  • Hiérarchie des normes

The module is delivered entirely in French. The tuition takes the form of a mix of short lectures and 'travaux diriges' (TD). The TDs are a method of teaching commonly used in the French university system that are the equivalent of tutorials in English universities. Where modules are taught through a mix of lectures (Cours Magistraux or CM) and TDs in France, those modules are assessed by continuous assessment of your performance in the TD classes. As a result, this module at Leicester studied before you move to Strasbourg will introduce you to the method of study and assessment that you will encounter for some modules in Strasbourg, without the pressure of needing to pass an assessment.

If you would like more information about which modules in Strasbourg are taught through the combination of cours magistraux and travaux diriges, you can consult the programme specification. Email law@le.ac.uk if you need assistance in understanding the information provided about the programme specification.
