Criminality and deviance can often illuminate the fears and fantasies of a nation, and through them we can learn more about the collective consciousness of a certain period. What was deemed criminal, moral or normative are all dependent on certain ideologies, and are often very different to the reality of many people’s lives.

By looking at case studies involving outlawed individuals, and events where people transgressed the line of ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, you'll become aware of contemporary debates surrounding these issues of the modern world, and the shifting historical debates that surround them.
