Geographical Visualisation

Module code: GY7027

This module will provide you with a basic understanding of the issues underlying visualisation in GIScience. We will cover material from traditional cartographic perspectives in addition to more recent web-based, mobile and 3D representations. We will compare and contrast the appropriateness of different visualisation techniques for specific application contexts and audiences and critically assess the affordances of interactive interfaces (via PC, web or mobile device) for the communication of geographical data and information. We will also reflect on the nature of ‘reality’ in the context of augmented/virtual realities.
