Postcolonial Perspectives in and of Africa

This is a third year specialist module on (differentiated) Africa which takes a postcolonial theoretical stance. In the module we use postcolonial perspectives to critically evaluate popular images, knowledges and discourses about Africa in order to understand the power of representations and to create a more nuanced and historically-informed understanding of the continent. Also, using detailed case study examples, we apply a postcolonial approach to a range of contemporary development issues to examine the material realities of everyday life in different places.
