Exceptional Preservation

This module is specific to the Geology with Palaeobiology degree programme. It outlines the role and importance of Lagerstätten, sedimentary deposits that contain exceptionally well-preserved fossils, in understanding the evolution, diversity, and ecology of life through time. As well as studying taphonomy and the processes of preservation, you will study specific deposits such as the Burgess Shale and the Solnhofen Limestone in detail. This module is accompanied by practicals involving world-class and rare fossil specimens.
