Critical Perspectives 2

Module code: EN2360 (double module)

The module will introduce you to a range of theoretical debates which have influenced the study of English in recent decades, covering issues such as reading and authorship, gender and sexuality, identity and selfhood, class and race, empire and nation. The module will invite you to identify, compare and evaluate key theoretical concepts, and consider their applicability to texts of different genres and historical periods. We will examine in detail three set texts (these will vary), approaching them from various theoretical perspectives. The module will enable you to make use of theoretical concepts in your interpretation of texts. It is your opportunity to reflect upon and discuss theoretical material that will help you to develop your skills as a literary and cultural critic.
