You'll read texts from across literary periods and genres, allowing you to identify continuities and discontinuities in depictions of literary figures such as the settler, the immigrant, the professor, the nerd and the cowboy. The module aims to help you develop a different way of thinking about American literary and cultural texts, through the sustained focus on figures rather than chronology.
