Finite Element Analysis and Design

Module code: EG3111

Most modern engineering structures possess complicated geometry, and are designed using a computer analysis of the stresses on a structure in response to load.  This allows the optimisation of shape in a virtual environment – the computer analysis that can perform these calculations is called Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

In this module you'll learn how to use FEA software in different loading conditions to design structures. As with any computer analysis, it is important to appreciate how the methods work in order to improve them and identify potential errors, along with how to do hand calculations to check the results of the analysis.
