Second Language Learning

In this module you will focuses on key issues related to the process of learning a foreign language. You will study the principles that underlie a range of theories of how languages are acquired, and will have the opportunity to relate these ideas to your own educational and professional experiences.

Together we will consider the roles of the learner in current approaches to language learning and teaching, and explore the key concepts, terminology, and theoretical frameworks used in applied linguistics and TESOL for describing and understanding the second language learning process. We will also look at recent developments and issues in second language learning, such as the roles of input, interaction and output in inter-language development, individual learner differences, and group interaction processes and classroom dynamics.
