Criminology in the News
Module code: CR3027
We only have to check social media, switch on the television, or pick up a newspaper to see headlines about crime and victimisation, and to realise how relevant to everyday life the study of criminology has become. This cutting-edge module provides you with the opportunity to explore truly contemporary issues in criminology, through an examination of key topics at the forefront of political, media and public discourses.
At the time of writing this module guide we have seen the use of lethal nerve agents in the UK, the increase in acid attacks, and the prosecution and conviction of leaders of a far-right group for a series of hate crimes. This module allows you to examine the relationship between criminological theory and research, contemporary criminological issues, and the relationship between perpetrators and victims.
Throughout you’ll be examining the exchange between contemporary criminological issues and the wider socio-political context. The exact content of the module will reflect the contemporary and current issues of the time.
