Cybercrime is a fast-growing phenomenon – more and more criminals are exploiting the speed, convenience and anonymity of the internet to commit a diverse range of criminal activities. In this module you’ll examine those activities, analysing the types of victimisation that can occur, along with the connections and differences between online and offline crime. You’ll cover a variety of forms – such as fraud, hacking/cracking, illegal marketplaces, child sexual exploitation, cyberespionage and cyberwarfare. 

Throughout the module you’ll consider the benefits and drawbacks of both the surface and deep web, discussing issues relating to ethics, censorship and anonymity. You’ll then assess the challenges cybercrime presents in terms of regulation and policing. You’ll be contemplating such questions as: how, or to what extent, can these offences can be prevented? How, or even can, offenders be caught and brought to justice?
