Dr Helen Gittos is Fellow and Tutor in Medieval History at Balliol and Brasenose, specialising in the history of the Church and its rituals in the Middle Ages, drawing on buildings, objects and archaeological evidence as well as written texts. Her current research focuses on aspects of the conversion of the Anglo-Saxons to Christianity and the history of the sixth and seventh centuries in Britain, as well the role and status of English in relation to Latin, with a book on English in the Liturgy before the Reformation close to completion.
