Course description
This postgraduate degree will provide you with advanced training in research methods in psychology, equipping you with the research and professional skills required for a research career.
The School of Psychology and Vision Sciences has particular research strengths in:
- Cognitive and behavioural sciences
- Perception and sensory processing
- Health and psychological wellbeing, including ageing
You will be encouraged to undertake a research project in one of these areas.
Entry requirements
Entry requirements
Second class honours degree in psychology, biological science or a related discipline.
English Language Requirements
IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If your first language is not English, you may need to provide evidence of your English language ability. If you do not yet meet our requirements, our English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) offers a range of courses to help you to improve your English to the necessary standard.

- MRes: £10,950
If you are resident outside the UK and the Republic of Ireland, you will need to pay a deposit of £3,000 to secure your place. This will be subtracted from your total tuition fee.

Modules shown represent choices available to current students. The range of modules available and the content of any individual module may change in future years.
Teaching and learning
All teaching is seminar based, or in one-to-one tutorial and research supervision sessions, with continuous assessment in the form of a research protocol, oral and poster presentations, and in the development of portfolios of assessed activities. You will write a thesis on original empirical research, which will involve an oral exam (viva).
