Increased competition and recent economic shifts in domestic and global markets, together with higher expectations from consumers, require marketing that is more sophisticated. This degree will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge of contemporary marketing practices to allow you to deal with these changes, including marketing strategy, marketing research methods and digital marketing.
You will consider marketing across a range of business contexts including consumer, industrial, service and not-for-profit sectors, as well as studying business to business, branding and communications strategies in local and international contexts. You will have opportunities to learn about industry practice and emerging trends in various sectors and it could be your path to a leadership career in marketing.
You will have the opportunity to develop your practical transferable skills including the ability to conduct independent marketing research, problem solving, presenting and planning.
The MSc in Marketing is designed for graduates and professionals setting out in their careers who aspire to become effective leaders in a dynamic global marketplace. The course also provides preliminary training for those who wish to pursue further research for a PhD in marketing leading to an academic or research orientated marketing career.

A good UK honours degree or its equivalent, or an postgraduate diploma from a recognised institution, or a relevant graduate level professional qualification.
English Language Requirements
IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If your first language is not English, you may need to provide evidence of your English language ability. If you do not yet meet our requirements, our English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) offers a range of courses to help you to improve your English to the necessary standard.

Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM)
We are a CIM Accredited Degree university, with the modules on the MSc Marketing course aimed to map to certain CIM professional qualifications. This means that if you successfully complete the course you are exempt from certain modules of CIM qualifications such as the Certificate in Professional Digital Marketing and the Certificate in Professional Marketing.
Direct application and additional fees apply to study modules with CIM.

Course structure
Semester 1
Semester 1
You will take two modules in each semester followed by your dissertation. Semester one covers the principles of marketing theory and practice, establishing a solid base for marketing application and addressing issues in contemporary marketing. You will also look at the interrelationships between marketing and consumers, and how they are communicated to and influenced.

Semester 2
In semester two you will focus on marketing research practices and methods. You will also explore the importance of innovation in marketing strategy and its application in business-to-business, services and international marketing contexts.

Teaching and learning
You will be taught through a mixture of methods, including seminars, lectures, group work, case study analysis and guided reading. You will be assigned a personal tutor who has a pastoral role and can offer support and advice. Additionally you can benefit from workshops, visiting speakers and industry visits.
Your work will be assessed through a variety of assignments including presentations, essays, case studies, marketing plans ad more, plus a 15,000-word dissertation.
