English Language Teaching Unit

Dalian Leicester Summer Programmes

Join the Centre for International Training and Education on a Dalian Leicester Summer Programme. The pathways you can choose from are:

  • English for Chemistry
  • English for Engineering
  • English for Environmental Science
  • English for Maths
  • English for Pharmaceutical Chemistry

These Summer Programmes are aimed at students wishing to improve both their academic English and their general English language skills. All courses combine the discipline expertise of the University of Leicester’s academic departments with the language expertise of the English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU).

Aims of the Summer Programmes

The main aim is to develop your ability to communicate when using English in your academic subject area and to give you an opportunity to experience studying your academic subject in a UK university environment. We focus on all four language skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing – but the main emphasis will be on improving spoken English.

Why join a Summer Programme?

  • Develop your general English language skills for everyday communication
  • Improve your academic English, and your research and study skills, specifically for use in your academic field
  • Experience studying in a UK academic department. This may include a mixture of lab sessions and lectures, giving you the chance to learn and practise key skills relevant to your subject area
  • Experience campus life at the University of Leicester - a city in the heart of the UK
  • Maximum class size of 16 students
  • Up to 18 hours of face-to-face taught classes per week on the University of Leicester campus. Classes generally take place between 9.15am-10.45am, 11.15am-12.45pm and 2.00pm-4.00pm
