Guan Youbang (Advanced Engineering with Management MSc, 2019) and Yu Youbang (Media & Public Relations MA, 2019)

Alumnus Guan Youbang (Advanced Engineering with Management MSc, 2019) and his wife Yu (Media & Public Relations MA, 2019) met during their time studying at the University of Leicester, and now live in China.

When they heard about the seriousness of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the UK, they donated 2,000 CE-certified face masks, shipping them over all the way from China to the University.

These masks will be used by those working on the frontlines in the University Hospitals, as well as in the research into COVID-19 testing being undertaken by Professor Mike Barer and his team.

Gaun said, “When I heard that the research team at the University of Leicester were working to help everyone during the outbreak, I admired them from the bottom of my heart.” He describes his time studying at Leicester as “a treasure of my life.”

We are immensely touched by their kindness and this generous gift. True “Citizens of Change!”
