Accommodation

There is a range of room types in our Halls of Residence, some with en-suite shower rooms and also rooms with kitchens and bathrooms that are adapted for wheelchair users.

If you need to store medication in a fridge then you can have a small medical fridge in your room free of charge.

If you need a Deafguard fire alarm in your room then this can be provided free of charge.

When you make your application for accommodation in our Halls of Residence please request this equipment if you need it or, any other disability related equipment or adaptations to your room.

Disabled students in our Halls of Residence who require a particular accommodation type as a direct result of their disability may be eligible for subsidised rent.  If you feel that your circumstances mean that you are eligible for the subsidised rent scheme you should indicate this on your online accommodation application form.

Further information on rooms is available from the Accommodation Service:

The Accommodation office has information on its website about accommodation for undergraduate students and accommodation for postgraduate students.

Personal care

The University does not provide support with personal care.  UK students who need support with personal care e.g. help with washing, dressing, eating, shopping, food preparation will need to contact their local Social Services for an Adult Social Services support assessment and appropriate care package.

International students will need to consider how they will fund their personal care costs and add these costs to their calculations when they are planning to study in the UK.

Healthcare

If you are an international student with a long term medical condition then please refer to the University’s guidance on healthcare for international students as this may answer some of your questions on accessing healthcare during your studies.

Evidence of your condition

You will be asked to provide some evidence of your health condition.  Evidence could be a letter from a medical professional involved in your care which states your condition, whether it is a long-term condition and the impact that it has upon you on a day-to-day basis including study activities.  Please send this evidence to accessable@le.ac.uk as soon as you can.

Evidence supplied needs to be written in English and confirmed as an official translation if it was originally written in a different language.

Exam arrangements

Once we met with you to discuss your support needs, exam arrangements, if appropriate, can be put in place. Although you may have told us about your disability on your application form, you must contact us on accessable@le.ac.uk to discuss exam arrangements as they will not be in place until you have discussed them with an Adviser.

If you would like to discuss study support available for you, please get in touch with us by email on accessable@le.ac.uk.

We look forward to hearing from you.
