Buckland Scholarship

The Buckland Scholarship has been made possible thanks to a generous philanthropic donation from alumna Alexandra Anderson (Law LLB, 1993). The Buckland Scholarship is designed to help academically able students in Law who might experience financial hardship during their studies. One Buckland Scholarship is available.

Each successful applicant will be awarded an annual £3,000 scholarship per year for a maximum of three years.

Eligibility

To be considered for a Buckland Scholarship, you must meet all of the following criteria: 

1. Be in receipt of an offer from the University of Leicester to study a full-time undergraduate Law LLB degree course and start your course in September 2025. Applicants from any of the following degree courses are eligible to apply: Law LLB, Law with a Modern Language LLB, Law with Politics LLB and Law with Criminology LLB'
2. Be studying full time and campus based
3. Have been assessed for fee status as a 'Home' student
4. Have a household income of £30,000 or below, as confirmed by the Student Loans Company, or alternative evidence produce upon request.

Awards may be withdrawn if we later become aware that successful applicants have not met eligibility criteria or have provided false information.

How to apply

You will be able to apply for the Buckland Scholarship once the application window opens at the end of August 2025. A link to the online application form will be added here whilst the application window is open.

As part of your application, you will be asked to provide a personal statement of up to 350 words, which could explain:

• i) what difference will receiving the scholarship make to your university experience
• ii) what barriers have you already encountered or overcome in pursuit of your education
• iii) what ambitions do you have for your time at university and/or the future beyond university?
• iv) what achievements, academic and/or personal, are you most proud of? There is no right or wrong answer; we are just keen to hear your own story.

The deadline for applying for this scholarship is 11.59pm BST on Sunday 6 October 2025. Applications made after this date will not be considered. 

Notification

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications by mid-November 2025.
