I am proud to head up the training and education of Operating Department Practitioners (ODP) in Leicester working across the East Midlands and beyond. I have had a long career (40+ years) in this field being appointed to this position in 1989 following wide ranging clinical experience working as an ODP in Leicester and Nottingham hospitals. I am passionate about providing a high quality programme that produces fit to practise registered health care professionals. I have been a member of the council for the College of Operating Department Practitioners and am a Fellow of the College. I have also worked with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Fitness to Practise Partner. As Head of the ODP programme I am a key member of the senior management group within the School of Healthcare.

As Head of Programme in a teaching dominant department my focus is teaching and learning however I do support the research of Colleagues in the team.

I teach across the full range of Modules and Topics in Operating Department Practice BSc Programme. My passion is to provide an interactive learning experience for students enabling them to make clear links between the academic knowledge they learn at University with their future role as an ODP. Key transferrable skills including academic skills are also important in the education of healthcare staff and across our team we spend a lot of time developing the skills that make out students valuable members of any operating theatre team. Student support is something I have always worked hard on and is vital to the success of our students.
