Kamlesh Khunti, Professor of Primary Care, Diabetes and Vascular Medicine in the Diabetes Research Centre, is a leading authority in diabetes and is recognised as one of the top 10 experts, globally. His expertise centres on diabetes, primary care and public health and he has published over 750 papers in the field. Kamlesh also sits on the UK’s Independent SAGE group which provides government with evidence based policies to tackle COVID-19.
Diabetic people are at increased risk of developing severe illness from COVID-19, so it is essential that this patient group’s needs are understood, and they receive accurate, up to date guidance. Professor Khunti’s expertise will be invaluable in guiding care providers to meet the specific needs of diabetic patients.
Professor Khunti has recently completed a systematic review of face masks for primary care professionals and respiratory tract infections such as COVID-19.
Professor Khunti has been elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. He is currently an advisor to the Department of Health, a Clinical Advisor for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), and a member of the Primary Care Study Group of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD).
