Senior Lecturer/Hon Consultant University of Leicester and University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust from 1997- 2015 and Hon Professor in anaesthesia and critical care since 2016. Currently: Senior undergraduate clinical education lead, UHL and UoL; elected council member Royal College of Anaesthetists; editor-in-chief BJA Education; editorial board member British Journal of Anaesthesia & Perioperative Medicine; expert advisor to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society; and co-director Diagnostics Development Unit University of Leicester. Previously: editor British Journal of Anaesthesia (2008-2017); Macintosh Professor of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (2011); a member of the European Society of Anaesthesiologists Pharmacology Subcommittee; ChairmanVascular Anaesthesia Society of Great Britain and Ireland; examiner for the Primary FRCA (2007-2020). Research

Led clinical research in anaesthesia and critical care teams in Leicester and the East Midlands for over 18 years. Research collaborations in Leicester Italy Japan and Brazil. Current research interests include: novel non-invasive monitoring modalities in acute illness; the effects of endogenous opioids on vascular function and immune modulation in sepsis.
