Fiona Curtis
Lecturer in Primary Education
Profile
I spent 23 years as a teacher in primary schools in both London and Leicestershire. I was an English co-ordinator and senior leader for many years and also had two periods as acting Deputy Head.
Having completed my Masters in Education in 2017, I took up a temporary role as a lecturer on the primary PGCE course in the same year combining this with my work in the classroom. I joined the University on a permanent basis in 2019 and now lead the English strand of the course the English specialism and contribute to the Professional and Academic strands.
I am interested in all areas of the primary English curriculum and pedagogy. My masters study focused on the use of peer tutoring in developing a positive reading self-concept in children. I am also interested in how student teachers develop their grammatical subject knowledge and how their self-efficacy affects their practice.
