Profile
I am an interventional cardiologist with practice in coronary stenting and TAVI valve implantation. Working within the Leicester NIHR Biomedical Research Centre my research interests include:
• Rare cardiovascular diseases including spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) coronary aneurysms and ectasia (CAE) and fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD)
• Novel medical devices
• Cardio-oncology
• Big data linkage to better understand disease interactions and comorbidity
• Diagnosis and management of coronary artery diseases and acute myocardial infarction
Research
Selected research studies
Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD): I lead the UK SCAD study currently supported by the patient charity BeatSCAD. I also chair the ESC-ACVC SCAD Study Group and the ESC-EORP SCAD registry.
The Virtual Cardio-oncology research initiative (VICORI); I am the joint lead investigator for this national data linkage initiative to connect cardiovascular and cancer data in order to better understand the interrelationship between the two commonest caused of morbidity and mortality in the UK.
Current Patents
Cardiac assist device: EP3277337A1
The PAL-VAD device is a novel left ventricular assist device being developed with support from the British Heart Foundation
Angioplasty of calcified arteries: PCT/GB2017/050877
The Lithocatheter device is a novel angioplasty device targeting calcified coronary arteries and being developed with support of the MRC
