University of Leicester among the best in the UK for the accessibility of health services for students
A new study, conducted by ED treatment providers, UK Meds, has revealed that the University of Leicester is among the UK’s leading universities for the accessibility of healthcare services for students.
The study revealed that the university met the criteria for the ‘platinum tier’ and scored 85.43 out of 100, placing it 10th in the UK, beating 109 other UK universities.
Furthermore, it revealed that the university has a total of 11 pharmacies, 9 sexual health clinics and 20 GPs in the surrounding area, with the closest healthcare centre located next to the university campus.
De Montfort University was also ranked in the highest tier for accessible student healthcare, meaning that two of the 15 best universities in the UK for accessible healthcare, are Leicester-based.
Dr Alexis Missick, GP at UK Meds, said: “Students have long faced challenges in managing their mental and physical well-being amid academic pressures and personal changes. The transition to university life often brings increased stress, anxiety, and health issues due to factors such as irregular sleep, poor nutrition, and lack of exercise.
"It's crucial for universities and their surrounding communities to provide easily accessible and comprehensive healthcare services.
"Investing in robust healthcare services is essential for enabling a supportive environment where students can thrive academically and personally. Universities must ensure their healthcare offerings meet student needs and set a high standard for others to follow.”
