Leicester’s global standing recognised by rise in world university rankings
The University of Leicester has been ranked in the top 200 universities in the world following a rigorous assessment by Times Higher Education.
Leicester has been placed joint-191st out of more than 2,000 institutions from 115 countries and territories in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025. The University has also risen one place to 25th in the UK rankings.
Recognised as the world’s most comprehensive evaluation of university performance, the methodology behind the rankings includes 18 indicators to assess institutions across five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement and international outlook.
The THE World University Rankings rise comes hot on the heels of Leicester being crowned Daily Mail University of the Year 2025 and shortlisted for the Times Higher Education University of the Year 2024 and The Times and The Sunday Times University of The Year 2025 awards.
The University has also climbed seven places to =27th position in this year’s edition of the Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide. In July, the University received the news it was ranked in the top 30 UK institutions of the National Student Survey, clinching 27th place according to analysis by the Times Higher Education.
Leicester’s growing achievements also include receiving an overall Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023, making it one of a small number of institutions nationally to achieve TEF Gold alongside a top 30 REF performance, indicating outstanding performance in both teaching and research.
Director of the Future Students Office, Phil Dalby, said: “The latest results from the THE World Rankings are a welcome recognition of the University of Leicester’s place on the global stage and our world-leading approach to teaching and research.
“This ranking complements the raft of accolades Leicester has achieved in 2024 and demonstrates that we are considered a top destination for international students.”
