University launches crowdfunding platform for student groups

The University's Philanthropy, Alumni and Community Engagement (PACE) team has today launched LeicsGO, a new crowdfunding platform for student groups.

Any group recognised by the University of Leicester Students’ Union will be able to use the site to crowdfund for a project, and eligible projects will receive up to £500 in matched funding. LeicsGO is powered by Hubbub and follows in the footsteps of successful similar projects at a number of UK universities including York, Essex and Glasgow.

LeicsGO was funded by a gift from a generous alumnus of the University, and matched funding will also come from alumni donations. “There are so many fantastic and creative student projects that societies and clubs can launch with a relatively small amount of cash,” said Bill Friar, Director of PACE. “This platform will help students get their dream projects off the ground, and we’re delighted the University can match gifts to these projects thanks to the generosity of our alumni donors.”

Currently confirmed launch projects include the University Boat Club, who will be fundraising for some much-needed new equipment, and the Leicester University Community First Responders (LUCFR,) a group based at the Leicester Medical School, who will be raising money to support their lifesaving work in the community. Other launch projects will be announced in due course.
