BUCS Super Heavyweight Boxing Champion
Third-year Management and Marketing student wins BUCS sporting title.
Earlier this month, third-year Management and Marketing student, Odera Okwuosa became the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Super Heavyweight Boxing Champion.
The championships, held at the University of Wolverhampton started on Friday 1 February. Throughout the weekend, Odera competed in three intense fights, starting with the quarter finals on Friday. Odera secured the title on the Sunday evening outscoring, Jehalel Jack from De Montfort University.
Odera has now fought in nine amateur fights in his career, winning eight and losing one. Alongside his BUCS title, Odera is the current East Midlands Super Heavyweight Champion.
Odera, who prepared for the BUCS championships at Kings Gym in Leicester, said: “It meant a lot to win the BUCS Championship in my final year. I can leave the University of Leicester on a high note and continue my amateur boxing career. I would like to thank the coaches at Kings Gym for training and supporting me throughout the matches. I hope that my win can inspire others to take part in Boxing and represent the University at future BUCS Championships.”
Fellow University of Leicester student John Nwabueze also won his weight division, Novice 75-81kg B at the Championships.
