Masters of Business

Students, alumni and business professionals are being offered the chance to improve their leadership skills, learn about strategy and entrepreneurship and explore new ways of thinking at the week-long Leicester Masterclass 2018 being held at the University of Leicester.

The University of Leicester School of Business (ULSB) is running the prestigious 2018 Leicester Masterclass from Tuesday 7 August 2018 to Monday 13 August 2018. The event is open to students, alumni and business professionals, offering them the chance to master and challenge key concepts, to advance their knowledge, skills and career prospects.

The Leicester Masterclass is comprised of bespoke and themed events, and forms a key part of the School of Business calendar. It is a great opportunity to participate in an innovative programme of lectures, workshops and one-to-one study sessions.

Themes that will be covered this year include: Strategy and Entrepreneurship; Big data and data analytics; Leadership; Global business and CSR, and Risk. Find out more in our timetable of events. Please note this is a provisional timetable and is subject to change.

Attendees will also focus on design thinking and innovation, the use of drama techniques in management problem-solving, and can take part in an interactive session on defending organisations against fraud and corruption. In addition to which there will be key note speakers and The Dean’s Celebratory Dinner.

Highlights include Dr Peter Rodgers, Director of the Leicester MBA Programme, asking students to consider Blue Ocean Strategy as a tool for innovation. The idea being that companies can succeed by creating "blue oceans" of uncontested market space, as opposed to "red oceans" where competitors fight for dominance. Attendees will then work in groups throughout the week to see how they would put this theory into practice.

We are also delighted to be joined by many guest speakers including Matt Tapp, Interim Director of Strategic Communications and Public Engagement at Leicestershire Police, who will lead a session on Leading Public Relations.

Dr Deborah Price, Associate Professor at ULSB and academic lead for the Leicester Masterclass, explains what makes the Leicester Masterclass so special: “The Leicester Masterclass 2018 encompasses themed events which map on to the core values of the School of Business and which highlight the issues facing contemporary management and leadership. Throughout the week, attendees will engage with our global and interdisciplinary community of academics, senior leaders from internationally renowned companies and a unique range of highly experienced business consultants.

“Most importantly, there will be the opportunity to network with our global family of students and alumni. The result should be engaging, enlightening and a little exhausting!”

The Masterclass provides an ideal opportunity to visit the campus and make the most of the facilities available. The campus is only a short walk away from Leicester city centre with access to all the attractions of a major UK city.

Registration for the event is available on the Leicester Masterclass registration site. We recommend that you book early to allow adequate time to apply for any necessary visas and to make travel arrangements. The deadline for registering is 24 July 2018.
