Student raises over 12000 for The Myton Hospices in memory of her mum

A tenacious student from our University has spent the last year working tirelessly to raise money for The Myton Hospices as thanks for the fantastic support they gave her mum during her final days in their care.

Elizabeth’s mum Karen spent 12 days in the Coventry Myton Hospice at the end of her battle with cancer, where she ultimately passed away on the 22nd March 2017.

Since then, Elizabeth has been dedicated to raising awareness and funds for The Myton Hospices in order to ensure that they can continue offering their services free of charge.

Elizabeth said: "I decided to set a target of £12,000, as my mum was in there for 12 days, and it costs just over £1,000 per day. If we could effectively pay for her stay, it would be amazing.”

In order to raise the money, Elizabeth and her team took part in numerous sponsored activities and organised a vast array of their own fundraising events- from selling homemade salt-dough models to cake sales, race nights and even laying on an afternoon tea event at Elizabeth’s house.

In February of this year, Elizabeth and her team of family and friends reached their £12,000 target.
