PhD Physics student shares his experience working on the Cassini mission
On 15 September 2017, after almost twenty years in space, NASA’s Cassini spacecraft made its final encounter with Saturn. The ‘Grand Finale’ consolidated the ground-breaking impact that the mission had made throughout its lifetime, making an unprecedented orbit that was closer to the planet than ever before.
Planetary Scientists from our University have played key roles in the mission since the 1990s, and Cassini’s breath-taking discoveries have helped shape Leicester’s research into planetary magnetospheres, ionospheres and atmospheres since the robotic explorer launched in 1997.
In the wake of Cassini's termination, member of the Cassini team at Leicester and PhD Physics student Tom Bradley has discussed his journey working on Cassini, and what the process has meant to him.
