Public invited to celebrate creativity and wellbeing
An all-day public event by the University of Leicester working with The Yellow Book and the Wellbeing Matters campaign will highlight the importance of our looking after our mental health.
‘I Feel Better When Wellbeing Matters’ will take place on Saturday 2 December at the George Davies Centre at the University of Leicester from 10am to 5.30pm and places can be booked online.
There will be live music and talks surrounding the topic of mental health & wellbeing, as well as free mindfulness workshops available to book onto here. Their new single "I Feel Better When", recorded at Abbey Road Studios with the #rethinkyourmindChoir is being released on the 1 December. You can get involved and help them #HitTheCharts with the Thunderclap Campaign.
There will be a morning session from 10am to 1pm and afternoon session from 2pm – 5.30pm. The sessions will feature a variety of speakers, including Pete Hirst, founding member and lead singer of the band Refuge; Claire Evans, a mindfulness specialist and founder of the Centre of Wellbeing; acoustic and music keynote speaker, Professor Dame Sue Bailey OBE DBE; Gillian McFarland (artist in residence at University of Leicester and De Montfort University); a video speech from Dr Pete Miller (the chief executive of the Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust); and a written speech from Professor Lord Patel of Bradford OBE.
Dr Marie Nugent, Public Engagement Manager for the University’s College of Life Sciences said: “We are thrilled to be celebrating The Yellow Book and what it represents by putting on this free public event. This event is open to all and we hope it brings people together, supporting mental health awareness in our local community.”
