President of the Supreme Court to speak for University Law Society

Please note that, due to problems at Leicester Rail Station, Lord Neuberger is running late so this event will start slightly later than advertised.

The outgoing President of the Supreme Court, Lord Neuberger, will be giving a free public talk today in his role as President of the University of Leicester Law Society.

The most senior judge in the UK, who retires from the Supreme Court in September, he has presided over some of the UK’s most high profile cases and has been particularly in the public eye recently due to the ruling which upheld the High Court’s decision that Parliament would need to ratify the result of the EU referendum. Most recently, he spoke out on the media undermining the rule of law, arguing that politicians were not quick enough to come to the defence of the judiciary.

In what is the Leicester Law School’s 50th Anniversary year, Lord Neuberger, President of the Supreme Court, will be delivering his address as President of the University of Leicester Law Society. He will speak on a range of topics and take questions from the audience. As part of his visit Lord Neuberger will judge the Law Society’s Senior Moot competition alongside prominent alumnus and High Court judge Sir Nicholas Green.

The address will take place on Friday 3 March at 12pm in the Peter Williams Lecture Theatre. The event is free and open to the public.
