Leicester students set crowdfunding target to enter the IMechE Formula Student 2017
Leicester students are aiming to become the highest placed UK electric vehicle team at Silverstone for IMechE Formula Student 2017.
University of Leicester Racing (UoL Racing), a team of around 30 students from a range of disciplines across the University, is working to design and build a single seat electric racing car to compete at Silverstone against over 150 University based teams from all over the world.
They are crowdfunding to raise £3,000 to cover the cost of entering the competition, materials and the running costs associated with manufacturing and running an electric car.
They have generated a great deal of interest in the project, raising over £2,000 so far.
The College of Science and Engineering at the University will support the team by matching the money raised up to the £3,000 target, so for every £1 donated, the team will receive £2.
The UoL Racing team finished as the third placed UK electric vehicle (EV) team in the Formula Student 2016 race and their current aim is to be the highest placed UK EV team at Formula Student 2017 when the competition culminates at Silverstone between 20 and 23 July 2017.
IMechE Formula Student is the largest student motorsport competition in the world, with over 3000 students from more than 150 teams and six continents attending.
