University signs Memorandum of Understanding with NATO Defense College

Our University and the NATO Defense College (NDC) have concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), it has been announced today.

The MoU will give NATO officers taking the Senior Course at the NDC in Rome the opportunity to continue their studies and pursue a Master’s degree in our School of History, Politics and International Relations.

The School is widely recognised for its teaching and research strengths in the security field and NATO officers will be able to select from the suite of seven MA awards offered by the School via Distance Learning, including:

1.     The Politics of Conflict and Violence

2.     International Security

3.     International Relations and World Order

4.     Human Rights and Global Ethics

5.     Diplomatic Studies

6.     Intelligence and Security

7.     Politics in the European Union

The first cohort of NATO officers joined the University of Leicester in September. A delegation from the School has also been invited to attend the NDC's 65th anniversary celebration in Rome next month.

Professor Mark Phythian from the School of History, Politics and International Relations said: “This exciting development recognises the School's strengths in teaching and research in the field of security. We all very much look forward to working closely with our NATO partners in the years to come and developing a relationship that has great potential for both the NATO Defense College and the University of Leicester.”
