Leicester diabetes experts gather for international conference

Leicester diabetes experts will be speaking at a global discussion on diabetes self-management and prevention in Denmark this week.

The second annual conference of the Alliance for Diabetes Self-Management and Prevention will be staged in the centre of Copenhagen on December 1 and 2. The international summit titled ‘Modern Approaches to Diabetes Self-Management and Prevention’ has been organised by the Leicester Diabetes Centre and the Steno Diabetes Center and the speakers will include Professor Melanie Davies from the University of Leicester.

The international alliance was formed last year with a commitment to bring wholesale changes to diabetes self-management. Leading figures in Type 2 diabetes self-management from across the globe came together for the first conference at the Leicester Diabetes Centre in September 2015 to establish a vision for patient-centred care.

The aim of the meeting is to raise the profile of self-management and prevention by establishing a forum for developing new approaches in diabetes self-management and prevention as well as disseminating knowledge, challenges and needs in modern diabetes self-management and prevention.

The Leicester Diabetes Centre is an international centre of excellence in research, education and innovation, which is a partnership between the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and the University of Leicester.
