Leicester celebrates opening access to higher education

Our University is celebrating its links with local colleges from across the Midlands and beyond.

The Local to Leicester partnership brings together colleges associated with our University both locally and in the West Midlands. The partnership reflects the University’s commitment to educational advancement in Leicester, Leicestershire and beyond.

The Local to Leicester partnership - formerly CULN, the Colleges-University of Leicester Network - was established to transform student access and staff development opportunities in the region. The University also provides scholarships totalling over £20,000 annually across its local partner institutions.

Elliot Newstead, Senior Student Recruitment Officer, said the University would be hosting a celebration event on Thursday 17 November at King Power Stadium for staff from the University as well as from the partner colleges, in addition to former students who had benefitted from the links. The event follows a similar one where the University celebrated links with 17 schools and colleges in London.

Elliot said: “This is a celebration of a great success story that has seen the University of Leicester work with HE and FE colleges to raise aspirations and maximise the opportunities for students and staff to befit from higher education. Leicester is proud of its commitment to widening participation in higher education and events such as these provide us with an opportunity to pay tribute to the enormous contribution that colleagues from across the sector make.”

  • The University of Leicester adopts a student-centred approach in everything it does and is committed to widening participation; welcoming students from all backgrounds to fulfil their potential at Leicester.
