Recycle a cycle and help those in need
Our Environment Team is encouraging staff, students and the general public to do their bit to cut waste while also helping those in need by recycling bicycles.
The University of Leicester has linked up with Enterprise-Rent-a-Car and is looking for old or unused bicycles to donate to the City of Sanctuary Charity. This charity supports asylum seekers and refugees by providing them with bicycles so they can attend appointments, job interviews and social meetings across Leicester that they would have otherwise missed as they have no mode of transport.
The team will be holding an event on Wednesday 15 June between 12 - 2pm where staff, students and members of the public can donate their old cycles. Bikes can be dropped off at:
- The Fielding Johnson Building car park on the main university campus
- Outside the Village Hub in Oadby student village
Organiser Zoe Thomson from the University’s Environment Team said: “Our University is growing in social responsibility and initiatives such as this have the best intentions for our society and environment by reducing waste and putting bikes back on the road.
“If you know anyone who has an old or unused bike, please encourage them to come down to this event.”
