Leicester Tigers begin pre-season training on University rugby pitches
The University has been privileged to provide perfect pitches for the Leicester Tigers as they prepare for the upcoming 2016/17 season.
As a consequence of the ongoing work at Oval Park in recent weeks, the Leicester Tigers have benefited from training sessions on the University’s rugby pitches at Stoughton Road Playing Fields.
Leicester Tigers head coach, and former New Zealand All Blacks star, Aaron Mauger, praised both the ground staff, who “clearly take pride in producing such a quality surface”, and the “first class condition of the field down at Stoughton Road".
As another demanding list of fixtures draw near, in both the English Premiership and the European Champions Cup, Mauger said he was pleased with the “quality we have been able to get into our training as a result of these pitches".
He said: “The Tigers are very appreciative of the the University’s generosity and accommodating manner throughout this critical period of our pre-season preparations.”
Whilst watching the squad demonstrate their training routines, Head of Sport and Recreation at the University, Matt Weir, said:"It’s great to see the Leicester Tigers working hard in pre-season at Stoughton Road Playing Fields in Oadby.
“As a University we are proud of Leicester as a city and of our continued partnership with the club and we wish them all the best for the season ahead.”
