Leicester law graduate to compete at Rio Olympics
Leicester alumnus Phelan Hill has been selected to compete for Team GB in this summer's 2016 Rio Olympic Games, which begin on 5 August.
Phelan, who graduated from Leicester in 2001 with a degree in Law (LLB), has been coxswain of the GB Rowing Team men’s eight for the past two Olympiads, playing an integral role in the boat’s success during that time.
He guided the eight to a bronze medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games and has won gold at the past three World Championships.
Phelan said: “It’s a real honour to be selected to represent for Team GB at the (Rio) Olympics. The circle is now complete. When I competed at London, I was but the learner now I am the master.”
Phelan is currently taking time out from his work as a Senior Policy Advisor with HM Treasury, who are hugely supportive of his rowing career.
