Exceeding expectations Leicester shortlisted for more awards for Richard III discovery research and reinterment

Today is the anniversary of the announcement by the University of Leicester that it had discovered the mortal remains of Richard III – described by The Guardian as The most extraordinary press conference ever held at any UK university.

Now the University of Leicester has heard it is shortlisted for two major awards by the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

The University is cited in the Marketing Team of the Year award for working alongside Leicester Cathedral and Leicester City Council, amongst others, as well as for the Marketing Campaign of the Year.

Both awards are for the work done towards the reinterment of Richard III. Again The Guardian was fulsome in its praise: "One of the most successful UK university media operations ever: the story of the discovery of the body of Richard III underneath a Leicester car park."

Ather Mirza, Director of the University’s News Centre, said: “These successes are a testament to the excellent teamwork across press, video and marketing as well as with academic colleagues. It reflects the passion, dedication and diligence of colleagues whose discoveries have provided such a compelling story for the University to recount.”

And as if this is not success enough, the media is also linking Premier League success to Richard III.

This is not the only success that Richard III has brought to Leicester - other awards are cited here.
