Four nominations for Attenborough Arts in building awards
The plaudits continue to come in for the Attenborough Arts Centre’s new gallery wing as the East Midlands Local Authority Building Control has shortlisted it for four Building Excellence Awards 2016.
The LABC, a not-for-profit membership organisation that represents all local authority building control teams in England and Wales, presents regional awards every year, with winners from each region progressing to the LABC Awards Grand Finals in London.
Attenborough Arts’s new gallery space was opened by Sir David Attenborough in January and makes the Centre one of the largest contemporary art spaces in the East Midlands. It has been nominated for:
- Best public service building
- Best educational building
- Best small commercial building
- Best inclusive building
This follows the 2015 Leicester Civic Society New Build Award in February and a Highly Commended award in the Access for All category in the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence.
Michaela Butter MBE, Director at Attenborough Arts Centre, said “We are delighted that the our new gallery is receiving so much recognition and the LABC nomination highlights not only a great new building, along with an inspirational visual arts programme, but a cultural hub for art lovers and families to meet, learn and enjoy together.”
They also won the Access for All Tourism Award, which celebrates organisations that provide high value access for all visitors, particularly disabled people and those with access needs, at the Leicester and Leicestershire Excellence in Tourism Awards last year.
