Sweet success for College Court Wilson Vale chef
College Court & Wilson Vale junior sous chef, Jason Turton has taken first place for his dessert in the Conference Centre of Excellence’s Chefs’ Challenge 2015 at Cambridge Regional College on Saturday 24 October.
A new element to this year’s competition was a ‘Cook and Serve’ style approach, where each chef was accompanied by a waiter or waitress who served the food, beverages and cocktails to two invited guests. Jason was accompanied by Robert Avies, head waiter at College Court.
The duo competed with thirteen CCE teams from throughout the UK to showcase quality food and service standards, including another team from College Court – Ben Bethany and Eleanor Stagg. The chefs had to make three courses, with plaice for the starter, guinea fowl for the main and a dessert of their choice.
Jason’s winning dessert was a modern take on a classic Queen’s Pudding (pictured right), made with frangipane, crème patisserie and meringue.
29-year-old Jason from Wigston in Leicestershire said: “I would like to thank everyone for the support they have given me and for the opportunity to compete with such talented hospitality colleagues. It was a fantastic experience.”
Riccardo Corbinzolu, Wilson Vale chef manager at College Court said: “To have two teams from College Court through to the finals was an amazing achievement and a reflection on the talent we have at Wilson Vale. Jason’s success really was the icing on the cake.”
