University to host major conferences in 2016
The University is preparing to host four major conferences next year in collaboration with Leicester Shire Promotions.
Along with two conferences to be held at Curve, these national and international events will bring 3,500 delegates into the city and generate more than £1 million of revenue.
The conferences are:
- Congress of Polish Student Societies in the UK, with 250 delegates at the University of Leicester, in February
- Chartered Institute for Archaeology, 400 delegates at the University of Leicester, in April
- International Association of Media and Communication Research, 1,000-1,300 delegates at De Montfort Hall and the University of Leicester in July
- 31st Summer Conference on Topology, 200 delegates at the University of Leicester, in August
Chris Harrison, business development manager for the University of Leicester's residential and commercial services, said: "We see a lot of potential in Leicester as a business tourism destination so it is great that as a city we have been able to attract these major conferences and events.
"There is an appetite among venues and hotels to bring this type of business to Leicester and to work together with Leicester Shire Promotions to make it happen."
Steve Crawford, centre director of College Court, the University's Conference Centre and Hotel, said they were supporting many of the events.
