American Literature in the Twenties and Thirties explores American fiction and poetry from an exciting, turbulent era that encompasses the aftermath of the First World War, the 'Jazz Age', the Harlem Renaissance, the Wall Street Crash and the Great Depression.

The module introduces you to key writers of the period and a range of literary styles. It places the texts in their social and historical context and encourages consideration of the ways in which they can be read as artistic responses to that context.

Student learning is supported by lectures and workshops on the literature and assignments, and detailed discussion of texts and topics in small-group seminars.
