Latin American Eco-Literature

Module code: SP3163

This module will engage with texts about the environment from across Latin America, as well as explore some of the central terms and concepts of contemporary ecocritical thought. The primary texts relate to different geographical regions (from the Andes to Argentina) and genres (including poems, short stories, an eco-gothic novel, and a documentary film). Throughout the course, lectures will discuss primary texts as well as key critical concepts such as ‘posthumanism’, ‘extractivism’ and ‘plant-thinking’. The module will include discussion of Latin American, including Indigenous, critical responses to environmental crisis.
