Politics, Conflict and Statecraft in Africa
Module code: PL3150
This module is designed to introduce you to the world of African politics, diplomacy and statecraft. Specifically, the module draws insights from ancient, modern, and contemporary Africa to analyse international relations, statecraft and political conflict. To achieve this, the module will consider in detail the nature of democratic institutions in ancient Africa, (under)development of economic and military power in modern Africa, and key conflict actors and drivers in contemporary Africa. Towards the end, the module will critically evaluate how current armed and unarmed struggles or movements such as Black Lives Matter help to understand international relations, statecraft, and political conflict in Africa.
