International Human Resource Management

Module code: MN7374

Businesses are becoming increasingly international, but their employees, factories and offices are all based in different countries with their own laws and practices.

What is the role of human resource management at the international level and how is it possible to coordinate activity across borders? Are management practices determined at the multinational’s headquarters, or are they shaped by the law and culture of the host country? Is globalisation leading to greater convergence or divergence? Recent dramatic developments in international trade have made these questions more complex.

This module focuses on how to manage employees within multinational corporations and in the broader global economy. You will consider how the internationalisation of business affects the relationship between management and labour, and explore the influence of business strategy, cultural and institutional effects on human resource policies. Plus, you will consider the interactions of national and transnational institutions and their influence on the HR policies and practices of multinational companies.
