Principles of anatomy and physiology

Module code: MD0003

In medicine, a thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology is essential for understanding the normal structure and function of the human body, and how disruptions to these can lead to disease.

In this module, you will be introduced to the anatomy and physiology of the musculoskeletal, respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal and reproductive systems, laying a solid foundation for your continued studies in Phase 1. Through surface anatomy tutorials and practical sessions in the dissecting room, you will gain hands-on experience with real specimens, enhancing your ability to visualise structures in three dimensions and understand the relationships between structures in the human body. In addition to learning about normal structure and function, we also explore what can go wrong, and how investigations can help the diagnostic process.
